Standard #1 Learner Development

INTASC Standard # 1: The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences.

INTASC Standard Interpretation: I understand that although learners progress through stages on similar timetables that each learner brings with them their own unique script of who they are and what environments stimulate learning for them. I will use techniques that incorporate multiple intelligences so that every student’s learning experience will be personally enriching. I will seek to provide meaning to real world scenarios so that as students enter the post-secondary phase of their education they will be armed to meet life’s challenges head-on.

INTASC Standard Reflection: There are portions of the content within Family and Consumer Science that include, Child Development and Ready, Set, Teach program where the goal is training future educators. The child development program focuses on how children grow and develop both physically and cognitively, I developed this lesson to illustrate the positive impact that caregivers can have on  early cognitive development.
