Standard # 10 Leadership and Collaboration

INTASC Standard # 10: The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.

INTASC Standard Interpretation: I understand that I am responsible for setting an example for my students that I would be proud for them to follow. I know that I can be most effective when I reach out to families, colleagues, and the community, to employ the approach that, “it takes a village” to raise well-adjusted productive members of our community, be it local or global. I understand that by setting a positive example that I touch the lives of students and perhaps future educators as well.

INTASC Standard Reflection: I understand that when teachers, parents and community members collaborate the overall student outcome is more likely to be positive.  I believe this artifact is an example that highlights my commitment to meet that objective. I created a research based parent education class that illustrates the powerful impact parents can have in their teenager’s decision to engage in sexual activity.  I believe that the solution to high teen birth rates does not lie at home or school, but a consistent message from both.
