INTASC Standard # 3: The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation.
INTASC Standard Interpretation: I will structure the classroom environment in ways that stimulate discussion and facilitate group learning. I will encourage students to work, not as an individual, but in student led learning that seeks to answer questions as a group. I will foster cooperation on projects both physical and mental, so that students may see the fruits of their labor and as such have opportunities to celebrate the strengths that each group member brings to both their team and the classroom as a whole. When working in student led groups they have the chance to practice the leadership skills that they will need in both family and corporate settings. However, students also have the opportunity to learn how to take direction and be respectful in such settings which will foster maturity that is crucial in all environments.
INTASC Standard Reflection: In Family and Consumer Science order is paramount. It can offer students a welcome break from the traditional classroom setting. In the expectations I set the stage for students to see themselves being successful as well as the promise I see within them. I want them to see that we are partners in their educational journey.
