Standard # 5 Application of Content

INTASC Standard # 5: The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.

INTASC Standard Interpretation: I understand that students learn best when teachers can employ cross-curricular methods in their teaching. I will focus on delivering the Family and Consumer Science content in ways that make it relevant to students lives, but I will also guide them to see the bigger picture of their lives beyond their secondary schooling. As a teacher today I am responsible for educating the next generation of the global community.

INTASC Standard Reflection: I created this fun math lesson to illustrate the cost of convenience foods over non – convenience foods. I feel that students will be able to see the relevance of the lesson to their own lives; but they will also be able to see how math, formulas and logic can be applicable to their personal finances as well.
