Standard # 4 Content Knowledge

INTASC Standard # 4: The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.

INTASC Standard Interpretation: As as highly qualified educator it is my responsibility to be thoroughly versed in my content area so that I may create exciting and relevant learning experiences. I understand that students learn best when the material is structured to be related to students prior knowledge but it also challenging enough to encourage further inquiry into the field. I also understand that I am responsible for ensuring that all my students have equal access to learn the content regardless of ability.

INTASC Standard Reflection:

The  original concept behind Home Economics was to  view the homemaker as an efficiency expert, and in doing so to develop ways to complete daily household tasks and have more time to spend with family and friends. The name may have changed but the goal of  Family and Consumer Sciences content has application to the daily lives of both individuals and families in our modern world. I created this presentation based on the application of the principals of Family and Consumer Science and the resulting outcome.
